On 4 September, an event “Drop of Life” dedicated to the Day of Solidarity in the Fight against Terrorism was held in the park of the main building of VSU. The date was announced to be the Day of Solidarity in the Fight against Terrorism after the Beslan tragedy between 1 and 3 September 2004.
“This is the tragedy we will always remember, the tragedy we will keep talking about. This is the evil we fight against. It is your duty to make sure it never happens again”, said VSU Rector Dmitry Endovitsky.
The organisers of the event distributed glasses of water among VSU students and staff attending the meeting. They put the glasses in front of the memorial to VSU staff and students who died during the Great Patriotic War. The “Drop of Life” event uses water as a symbol because the hostages in Beslan did not get any water for three days.
Students of the Faculty of Journalism of VSU also made a film about Beslan. The film tells the story of just one family.
“While making this film, we wanted to make sure that each element (infographics, chronicle, reconstruction, and music) served as an additional emotional background to the endlessly tragic story of the women. The reconstruction of events was the most difficult part. We spent a lot of time looking for the location and the actors who could do it. Based on the reviews we received, we can now say that we managed to do it right”, said Maxim Maximov and Ilia Shushkov, co-directors of the film.
Another event dedicated to the Day of Solidarity in the Fight against Terrorism was held at the Borisoglebsk Branch of VSU.
