On 4 September, a traditional concert of symphonic music dedicated to the start of a new academic year was held. The orchestra was conducted by the Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation, maestro Yury Androsov. Professor Bronislav Tabachnikov acted as the master of ceremony at this concert.

Prior to the concert, VSU Rector Dmitry Endovitsky addressed the guests and stressed their importance for the university:

“Our guests today, besides the university’s teachers and other employees, are our partners and friends: Natalia Tsaitler, Chairperson of the Central Black Earth Branch of Sberbank of Russia, Sergey Konovaluk, the Head of the company INTERKHROS, Mikhail Drapalyuk, Rector of Voronezh State Forest Engineering University, and Tatiana Suntsova, Headmaster of school No. 101.”

The rector said that starting a new academic year we should remember those we lost over the previous year. Thus, Dmitry Endovitsky paid tribute to his colleague and friend Vasily Popov, Rector of Voronezh State University of Engineering Technologies and a former Vice-Rector at VSU. But life goes on. So, the concert was very cheerful. It was an elegant combination of classical and popular music, and all the guests enjoyed themselves greatly.

The concert included songs from well-known Soviet films and music by Gennady Gladkov, Alexander Zatsepin, and Andrey Petrov. The best part of the concert was the performance by Ivan Kuraev, a solo singer at Voronezh State Opera and Ballet Theatre, who sang songs from popular Soviet films “Say a Word for the Poor Hussar” and “Ivan Vasilievich Changes Profession”.

Classical pieces included in the concert were a suite “Time, Forward!” by Georgy Sviridov, and the Polovtsian Dances from the “Prince Igor” opera by Alexander Borodin, whose 190th anniversary is celebrated this year.

The concert ended with music from “Schindler's List” and “Indiana Jones” by John Williams. As an encore the orchestra played songs by popular Russian bands Leningrad and Sektor Gaza.
