On 3 September, students of the VSU Institute of International Education visited the international festival of gardens and flowers “Garden City” in the Dinamo central park. There they took part in a master class in decorative ironwork, tried cheese and honey produced by local farmers, and participated in a literary relay “Gardens in literature” organised by the Nikitin library. They also visited the “Patriot” exhibition, dedicated to the veterans of WWII and the weapons used in it.
Natalia Vella, Deputy Director for Extra-Curricular Activities of the Institute of International Education, showed students the war memorial in the park and told them about the importance of the victory of USSR in the Great Patriotic War and the heroism of Soviet soldiers and all Soviet people.
“There are 165 Soviet soldiers from the 60th Army in this mass grave. Between July 1942 and January 1943, there were severe fights in the northern part of the city, near Dinamo, the Central Park for Recreation and Leisure”, said Natalia Vella.
The theme of the “Garden City” festival this year was dedicated to the 400th anniversary of bishop St Mitrophan of Voronezh, the 100th anniversary of Voronezh State Nature Biosphere Reserve, and the year of Teachers and Mentors in Russia. The exhibit “Green Library” by the VSU Botanical Garden took second place.
