On 15 September, a meeting of the working group was held in the main building of the university under the guidance of VSU Rector Dmitry Endovitsky. It was dedicated to the launch of the Leading Engineering School (LES) in electronics and telecommunications technologies. The Leading Engineering School fits organically into the radioelectronics cluster of the Voronezh Region, which was created on the initiative of the Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov and the Governor of the Voronezh Region Alexander Gusev. The VSU Project Office, supported by leading scientists and other departments of the university, is developing a Development Programme for the school in order to participate in the grant competition of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia.
“VSU’s Leading Engineering School will train highly qualified employees who can solve breakthrough engineering problems. This will provide a significant contribution to the achievement of the technological, industrial, and human resource independence of the Russian Federation in the field of electronics and telecommunications,” said VSU Rector Dmitry Endovitsky.
At the meeting, it was decided that Voronezh State University is able to provide LES with a scientific background and qualified academic and teaching staff who can train future specialists in the above-mentioned areas. It was also noted that the operation of LES would be impossible without the participation of the radioelectronics cluster of the Voronezh Region as only the cooperation of the university and business can help master critical technologies and release breakthrough products.
“At the meeting of the working group dedicated to the creation of a radioelectronics cluster in the Voronezh Region, we announced VSU’s initiative to launch the Leading Engineering School. The industrial needs for advanced research and development and highly qualified engineers are already being analysed. This is a new project, and we have to explain to everyone else why LES would be a relevant component of the cluster. So far, AO NIIET, a world leader in microelectronics and the only Russian enterprise involved in serial production and supply of GaN-on-silicon transistors, has shown interest in the project,” said Dmitry Kostin, Vice Rector for Research.
VSU’s Leading Engineering School in electronics and telecommunications and the radioelectronics cluster of the Voronezh Region will allow the Voronezh Region to regain its status as the centre of the electronics industry in Russia.
In August 2023, Voronezh State University, supported by AO NIIET, had already won a grant from the Government of the Voronezh Region for the launch of a laboratory of gallium nitride and silicon electronics.
