On 20 September, first-year students of the Faculty of Philology participated in the Zhuravli festival, dedicated to the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Rasul Gamzatov, a Soviet and Russian poet, prose writer, publicist, translator, and public figure who was born in Dagestan.

The celebration was held in a picturesque place on the banks of the Don, in the D.M. Venevitinov museum. Honoured guests took part in the opening ceremony of the festival, including Head of the House of Peoples’ Friendship Vladimir Ivanov and the Director of the Regional Nikitin Literary Museum Svetlana Derkacheva. First-year students interviewed them, and the interviews will be published in the “Filin” newspaper issued by the Faculty of Philology.

The festival program was incredibly diverse: the participants had the opportunity to meet and communicate with guests from different regions of Russia, taste the national cuisine of Georgia, Dagestan, and Azerbaijan, and enjoy the musical performance of the Russian folk band “Terem”. A tour of the museum exhibition was a nice addition to the festival. The festival was concluded with a great concert. Rasul Gamzatov poems were recited on the main stage, and singers also sang the songs based on his works. There were also dancing performances, and the audience enjoyed lezginka by a dancing group from Dagestan and was impressed by the Russian folk dance to the accompaniment of the well-known “Kalinka”. The festival filled the participants with lots of positive emotions.
