On October 3, employees of the Leisure and Culture Centre of the International Education Institute organised a brief tour of the Northern District for new students who came from different countries for the pre-university education at Voronezh State University.

To really get a feel for a new city, one should walk around it. The weather was wonderful, so the walk, which lasted several hours, was a success! To the surprise of the international guests, it turned out that the area of the Northern District is almost half the size of the capital of Burundi (a state in East Africa), Bujumbura.

The students really enjoyed the Severny Les park. On Lizyukov Street they were happy to take photos by the famous sculpture of the kitten Vasily. They finished the excursion on Kholzulzunov Street. At the Monument of Glory, the international students honoured the memory of those who died in the Great Patriotic War.

“The tour made a good impression on the guests. They were more interested than usual tourists. They will live and study here. In order to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the city, to organically fit into the new environment, they just had to get used to it. So, we mixed business with pleasure! This was one of the first steps towards the social and cultural adaptation of international students in the university, the city, and the Russian community,” said Natalia Vella, Deputy Director for Extracurricular Activities at the International Education Institute.
