From 3 to 7 October, the Orange Atom 3x3 Organisations’ Basketball Cup of Rosatom State Corporation took place in Ivanovo. The men’s team of the VSU students’ sports club “Khitschnye Bobry” (Predatory Beavers) took first place in the competition, and the women’s team took third place.
The men’s team included Nikolay Dobrosotskikh, a student of the Faculty of Computer Sciences; Nikita Yanishevskiy, a student of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics; Mikhail Pchelnikov, a student of the Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology; and Leonid Yudin and Viktor Verlin, students of the Faculty of Law.
The women’s team included Polina Gritsai, a student of the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology, Maria Pavlova, a student of the Faculty of Philology; Zhanna Zhurba, a student of the Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology; Sofia Satanovskaya, a student of the Faculty of Economics; and Elena Pushkina, a student of the Faculty of Mathematics. The team’s coach is Maria Yanishevskaya, senior lecturer of the Department of Physical Education and Sports.
Mikhail Pchelnikov was considered the best player of the team, as well as the most appreciated player of the tournament.
“The tournament in Ivanovo was held as part of the Rosatom Cup for students of relevant universities. This time, besides the women’s team participating in the Atomiada, the men’s team of the university also took part in the tournament. There was no clear winner until the final, which made the victory all the sweeter because no one expected us to win. In the women’s competition the host team, the team of Ivanovo State Power Engineering University was the clear leader. The other teams were at an equally good level, which led to a fierce struggle. In general, I can certainly grade the performance of our teams as 4+. We hope that Rosatom will invite us to their tournaments again, and we, in turn, will play great games many more times,” said Mikhail Pchelnikov.
