On October 8, the qualifying round of the 2023–2023 South and Volga Region Programming Championship of Russia (one of the stages of the ICPC Student Team World Championship) was held. One of the venues for the event was the Faculty of Computer Science of VSU.
The competition was held in a full-time format simultaneously in 21 cities of Russia. This year more than 400 teams took part in the competition (a detailed list can be found on the competition page). Many beginning teams were able to try their hand at competing with each other and with already established strong opponents from other regions.
More than 50 teams competed at the VSU site:
- Voronezh State University – 32 teams;
- Russian Air Force Military Educational and Scientific Centre “Air Force Academy named after Professor N.E. Zhukovsky and Y.A. Gagarin” – 5 teams;
- Voronezh State Technical University – 5 teams;
- Voronezh State University of Forestry and Technologies named after G.F. Morozov – 4 teams;
- Voronezh Institute of the Federal Penitentiary Service – 3 teams;
- Voronezh State Agricultural University named after Emperor Peter I – 2 teams;
- Voronezh Institute of High Technologies – 1 team.
This year, participants had to solve 12 different problems. For each problem the participants were to design an effective algorithm and implement it as a programme using any programming language, taking into account the time and memory limitations. Quite often, the solutions to such problems are quite short, but it is not easy to find them; at least a very non-trivial way of thinking is required.
As a result of the competition, six teams from the VSU Faculty of Computer Science were awarded with third degree diplomas.
The team from the Russian Air Force Military Educational and Scientific Centre “Air Force Academy” received a third degree diploma after solving seven proposed problems.
