On September 10, an all-Russian Hackathon took place in Nizhny Novgorod as part of the annual “Digital Breakthrough. Season: Artificial intelligence” Championship. Third place in the “Pro” category was taken by a team of four graduates of the Faculty of Computer Science and a master’s student of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics of VSU, Roman Makotovchuk.
In May 2023, the team already became the winner of the district Hackathon in the Central Federal District, which allowed them to get to the All-Russian Hackathon.
In the event “Digital Breakthrough. Season: Artificial Intelligence” was attended by 231 teams and 1,748 participants. Their task was to develop an intelligent voice assistant-typist, whose functions include recognising and analysing human speech with the subsequent issuance of the requested information based on the specialised documents available on the device.
“The guys achieved success thanks to their professionalism. Their solution uses a stack of the most modern ASR (automatic speech recognition), TTS (text-to-speech) and LLM (Large Language Model) artificial intelligence technologies,” commented Irina Kashirina, professor at the Department of Mathematical Methods of Operations Research.
“My team and I decided to try our hand at this competition, since this is the best synergy between science, a friendly atmosphere and healthy competition. The most pleasant and interesting moments of such competitions is the feeling of belonging to something important, useful, and comprehensive. It’s incredibly nice to know that your solution will be useful for many people,” said Roman Makotovchuk.
