The university's rector and Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant executives discuss cooperation opportunities

On 8 November, a meeting between Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant executives and employees of Voronezh State University was held in the White Hall of the main building of Voronezh State University.

The meeting was attended by Olga Korosteleva, HR Director at Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant, Irina Efimchuk, Director for Educational Institutions and Healthcare, Varvara Sedova, Head of the Personnel Recruitment Department, and Elena Belkina, Head of the Protocol Department.

Among VSU representatives were Dmitry Endovitsky, Rector, Elena Chupandina, First Vice-Rector, Larisa Korobeinikova, Vice-Rector for Economics and Contract Service, Dmitry Kostin, Vice-Rector for Research, Innovations, and Digitising, Dmitry Zhukalin, Head of the Department of Innovations, Maxim Gladkikh, Deputy Head of the Department of Information Policy, Irina Kashirina, professor at the Department of Mathematical Methods of Operations Research of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics, and Danila Znatkov, Lecturer at the Department of Translation and Professional Communication of the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology.

In his welcoming speech, Rector Dmitry Endovitsky spoke about the achievements of VSU in recent years. He paid special attention to the university's buildings and facilities. In his report “Interactions with the business community”, he outlined the structure of the educational activities of VSU and highlighted the active interactions of VSU with its industrial partners:

“Industrial partners need highly qualified personnel who graduate from Voronezh State University. Together, we prepare special master's degree programmes that form the competencies that employers expect from graduates. What is more, we offer additional education programmes. They are mobile, flexible, and have also been prepared in close cooperation with our industrial partners.

At the meeting, it was noted that the laboratory, created with the support of the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant, helped the university to become one of the best universities in Russia in terms of IT specialists training. Now, data mining, Python, and other practical disciplines that are in demand in the labour market are taught here.

The laboratory allows VSU scientists to conduct metallographic studies, develop systems for computer vision, speech recognition, prediction and prevention of equipment failure, and even methods for diagnosing heart diseases.

Dmitry Kostin, VSU Vice-Rector for Research, Innovations, and Digitising, also gave a speech and told the representatives of Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant about the Advanced Engineering School “Russian Electronics, Infocommunications, and Radio Communication”:

“The Advanced Engineering School will provide both educational and scientific activities. Thus, by solving high-tech problems in the interests of certain companies we will train qualified specialists.

Finally, the participants of the meeting discussed issues related to cooperation in the sphere of human resources. They discussed the employment possibilities for VSU graduates at the metallurgical plant, and the university's assistance with providing Chinese-Russian translators, which is now very relevant for Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant.

Representatives of the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant also had a meeting with students from Lipetsk and invited them to take part in the “Academy of Steel Opportunities”, a project for senior students which helps them to learn more about metallurgy and to get a job at Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant.
