On November 9–11, 2023, the International Pedagogical Congress “The Legacy of K.D. Ushinsky and Modern Education” was held at Lomonosov Moscow State University. It was included in the Plan of the main activities for the Year of Teachers and Mentors in the Russian Federation, approved by the order of the Government of the Russian Federation. The International Pedagogical Congress included a number of scientific, educational, and outreach events.
On November 10–11, the International Research and Practice Conference “Russian as a Foreign Language in the Mirror of Modernity” was held. Voronezh State University organised the conference in cooperation with the Lomonosov Moscow State University, Patrice Lumumba Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, and Pushkin State Russian Language Institute. The conference was held both in-person and remotely.
At the event, Vladimir Rodionov, Director of the International Education Institute, made a report on “Russian as a Foreign Language in the System of Professional Training of Foreign Citizens at Voronezh State University”.
The International Education Institute of VSU supervised such panels of the conference as “Scientific Register and Field-Specific Language as Tools for Integrating Foreign Students into the Academic Environment” and “Linguistic and Didactic Aspects of Teaching General Education Disciplines at the Stage of Pre-University Training”. At these panels, associate professors and teachers of the International Education Institute Irina Rodionova, Galina Dibtseva, Marina Ivanova, Natalia Mironenko, Ekaterina Gelashvili, Ekaterina Orekhova, Margarita Trubchaninova, and Marina Kuznetsova successfully presented their reports reflecting the results of work with foreign students. Associate Professor Aleksandra Lebedeva took part in the panel on “Problems of Intercultural Communication”. Associate Professor Yulia Zhidkova, Head of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language at the International Education Institute, spoke at the panel “Problems of Ensuring Continuity in the Content of Language Training for Foreign Students”.
Colleagues from Voronezh Institute of the Ministry of the Interior of the Russian Federation, Zhukovsky and Gagarin Air Force Academy, and Burdenko Voronezh State Medical University also made presentations at Voronezh State University. Teachers from the largest centres of international education in Russia presented numerous reports.
The organising committee of the International Pedagogical Congress thanked the International Education Institute of VSU for their successful work preparing and holding the conference. The results of the events indicate the high authority of the International Education Institute of VSU among the professional community of universities implementing educational programmes for foreign citizens.
The Russian Rectors’ Union expressed gratitude for the organisation of the International Research and Practice Conference “Russian as a Foreign Language in the Mirror of Modernity” and the International Round Table “New Tools for Teaching Russian Language and Literature: Fundamental and Applied Linguistics in Pedagogy”. It was noted that the joint work during the congress reflected the contribution of the university community to the strengthening of all-Russian spiritual and moral values and civic mindedness of the younger generation. The Russian Rectors’ Union expressed confidence that the unity of Russian universities is a strong pillar for the state in achieving educational, scientific, and technological sovereignty.
