On November 4, the results of the All-Russian contest “Battle of the Choirs” were announced. The pop choir “FERMATA” became a first degree laureate of the contest. The choir is managed by Vladimir Avdeev, a master’s degree student of the Faculty of Law at VSU. The competition was organised by MirArt, a St. Petersburg regional public organisation for the development of culture and art.
The contest was supported by the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives, the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh), the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the All-Russian contest “Bol’shaya Peremena (the Big Break)”, and the Russian social network “VKontakte”. More than 1,500 different music bands from all over Russia applied to participate in the competition.
To take part in the “Battle of the Choirs”, the “FERMATA” team prepared several popular Russian compositions. In the semi-finals, the choir performed the song “Let the Whole World Wait” by Sergey Lazarev, and in the finals, they performed the rock version of the song “At Dawn” by the Alliance.
The semi-finalists of the “Battle of the Choirs” were given the opportunity to take part in a concert dedicated to the Day of Russia. Together with Larisa Dolina, members of the “FERMATA” pop choir performed the song “About the Motherland”. At the end of the concert, they sang the anthem of the Russian Federation together with Russian pop stars accompanied by an orchestra.
“The competition was nationwide and supported by various foundations, including the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives, so, we understood that this was a serious multi-aspect challenge to our ensemble: our strength, integrity, and professionalism. It was also a great opportunity to show ourselves, to make a name, to become known all over the country. Personally, I felt completely in tune with what was happening: “This is how it was supposed to happen”. A tremendous amount of work has been done, first of all, by Yulia Bulavintseva, the person who gathered the ensemble and raised it to this level! Besides, it was a huge moral and physical contribution of each participant, along with the support and assistance of the Voronezh Concert Hall and the Ministry of Culture of the Voronezh Region. That’s why the “FERMATA” pop choir had no choice but to win!” said Vladimir Avdeev, the manager of the ensemble.
