Between 23 and 25 November, the 2nd International Scientific and Practical Conference “Environmental Problems of the Use of Mountain Forests” was held at Adyghe State University in Maykop. The conference was organised by 20 organisations, including Voronezh State University.
During the plenary session, Dmitry Kostin, DSc in Physics and Mathematics, VSU Vice-Rector for Research, Innovations, and Digitising, who participated in the conference online, made a welcoming speech.
Two representatives of Voronezh State University attended the conference: Sergei Eprintsev, PhD in Geography, Associate Professor at the Department of Geoecology and Environmental Monitoring, and Evgenia Zhigulina, PhD in Geography, Associate Professor at the Department of Physical Geography and Landscape Optimisation.
Sergey Eprintsev delivered a report on “Vegetation close to urbanised territories as a factor facilitating environmental safety”. He talked about the latest advances by researchers from Voronezh State University within a project supported by a grant of the Russian Science Foundation “Urboecodiagnostics of the condition of air in large industrial cities of the Central Black Earth Region: exposure to noise factors, carcinogenic risks, and environmental safety”. The head researcher on the project is Professor Semyon Kurolap, DSc in Geography.
Evgenia Zhigulina delivered a report “Landscape and recreational features of the valley of the Voronezh River in the Ramon District of the Voronezh Region”. She named the main issues concerning river valley landscapes in the Voronezh Region and the top-priority activities aimed at the optimisation of the landscapes in the region. She also talked about the Voronezh school of landscape science and the main research activities of the Department of Physical Geography and Landscape Optimisation.
The cultural and entertainment programme of the conference included a tour of Evgeny Schwartz trail, the Caucasus Nature Reserve, and the Big Azish cave.
