On 30 November, an exhibition of paintings by Maxim Anikandrov, a member of the Union of Artists of Russia, Honorary Artist of the Voronezh Region, opened in the Rector’s Gallery. The artist graduated from Voronezh Arts College and later from Herzen Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) Arts College. Maxim Anikandrov is currently a teacher of painting, composition, drawing, and art objects analysis at Voronezh Arts College. The exhibition displays the most recent landscapes and still-life paintings by the artist.

Maxim Anikandrov’s paintings and graphic works can be found in private galleries and Russian and foreign collections. His works are brutal and laconic. His animated brush strokes impress people at first sight. His paintings are full of lyrics and the sense of beauty. Maxim Anikandrov is also a great master of light and colour. The sunlight in his paintings is fascinating.

Dmitry Kostin, VSU Vice-Rector for Research, Innovations, and Digitising, took part in the opening ceremony. He said that holding art exhibitions is one of the most important traditions of the university. It helps students to immerse into the university's history and heritage.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Sergei Gulevsky, a soviet and Russian artist, Full Member of the Russian Academy of Arts. He said that Maxim Anikandrov is a master of colour. His works are a manifestation of the main goal of every artist, to amuse the audience and to bring something nice and good to this world.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Alexander Lavrov, Associate member of the Russian Academy of Arts and an Honorary Artist of the Russian Federation; Yana Pankratova, lecturer at VSU and Voronezh Arts College and an apprentice of Maxim Anikandrov; Irina Kosinova, DSc in Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Head of the Department of Ecological Geology; and Larisa Rybacheva, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor at the Department of Russian Literature of XX–XXI Centuries, Theory of Literature, and Humanities.

“There is no such thing as too much art, and we should make sure we see as much as possible of it”, said Maxim Anikandrov.
