On 27 December 2023, the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation published order No. 527-NG with a list of awardees of the title of Master of Sports of Russia. Daniil Abakumov, a second year student from the Geological Faculty of VSU, who represents the Voronezh Region, was awarded with the title of Master of Sports of Russia in wrestling.
“I have been working towards this title for almost three years. I achieved the status of a master of sports several times, but it was not awarded to me for different reasons: one time, I was under 18 years old, the other, there were not enough regions present at the competitions, in another situation, a comma was put in the wrong place in the documents.
But on New Year’s Eve, we received the order confirming that the title was finally awarded to me. My coach has been preparing me for competitions, helped me to develop the right attitude for each match, and supported me. All of this is very important for victory. I am grateful to my parents for introducing me to this sport. I would also like to express my gratitude to the coaches who have been working with me for 13 years. I hope that this title is not the limit and I will continue improving my results,” said Daniil Abakumov.
He was coached by Alexander Belanov, Head of the Department of Physical Education and Sports and Master of Sports of the USSR.
