Last summer, the team of Igor Khaustov, a student from the Faculty of Computer Sciences, received a grant of 1 million roubles for their project “Development of a Japanese-style computer game The Last Eclipse” which they had been working on for more than a year.

Now it is February 2024, and they are already developing a demo version of the game and a website for it. They decided to use the money from the grant to buy the equipment.

“There are prospects both with this project (it will depend on how the demo version is accepted) and with the project related to 3D render optimisation. It was a random idea: I was walking down the street and thought of how to make the process of rendering a 3D video scene faster. I wrote a few scripts, and the process significantly accelerated. Usually it takes about 3 or 4 hours, and that time it took twice less. Currently we’re working hard on this project,” said Igor Khaustov.

The team of students from the Faculty of Computer Sciences have been developing the Last Eclipse, a Japanese-style video game, for over a year. During their third year of studies, Daniil Ivonin and Igor Khaustov, the project’s chief programmers, gathered a team that consisted of Ruslan Bozorov, composer, Fyodor Kuliev, artist, and Elena Kryukova, screenwriter. The game was created using Unreal Engine 5, an advanced game development engine, and all available technologies.

“We’re going to extend our wishlists in order to attract an investor by showing that the project has a stable basis and a promising future. If it doesn’t work, we’ll try to manage by self-financing, working on various games or 3D graphics orders from other companies and individuals,” commented Igor Khaustov on the team’s plans on project development.
