Saratov Winter School “Modern issues of the theory of functions and their application” was held between 28 and 31 January 2024. More than 100 mathematicians from educational centres of Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Japan participated in the conference. The school offered the following areas: real and complex analysis, approximation of functions, orthogonal polynomials and series, spectral theory of operators, optimisation, non-smooth analysis, harmonic and wavelet analysis.

The Faculty of Mathematics was represented by Dean Maria Burlutskaya, Associate Professor Margarita Zvereva, and PhD student Elena Grigorieva. As part of the section “Spectral theory of operators”, the following reports were presented: “On some problems for operators with involution” (Maria Burlutskaya, Elena Grigorieva) and “On the conditions for the extremum of the energy functional in the class of discontinuous functions” (Margarita Zvereva).

“This was a serious academic conference with many interesting reports. We were glad to hear that various participants highly evaluated the results obtained by the mathematicians from Voronezh,” said Maria Burlutskaya.
