Ksenia Nagina, DSc in Philology, Professor at the Department of Foreign Literature of the Faculty of Philology, spoke at the conference at the State Museum of Leo Tolstoy as part of the project “Philosophy in literature, literature in philosophy. The path paved by Leo Tolstoy”. The project which involves a presentation of a report and an exchange of opinions regarding its topic is a joint initiative of the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the State Museum of Leo Tolstoy.
Ksenia Nagina presented a report “Me and the Other in the literary and philosophical thoughts of Leo Tolstoy”. The report mentioned the themes of consciousness and self-consciousness of personality as well as a spiritual unity of “Me” and “The Other”, person and the world that are important for understanding the writer’s aesthetics and religious views. Based on the analysis of Leo Tolstoy’s texts, Ksenia Nagina showed how the ideas of European (Jean-Jacques Rousseau) and Oriental (Buddhism, Hinduism) traditions were interpreted in his works.
