Youth festival “All-Russia Student Marathon 2024” was held at the health and sports centre “Orbita” between 1 and 5 February. Over 500 students from 25 universities of Russia competed for the title of leaders in creative, sports, and intellectual competitions. The VSU delegation which consisted of 50 talented and ambitious students came back as prize-winners. VSU team “Doctor of Sciences, Professor Shvarzengolt” took second place.

The intellectual programme of the Student Marathon included 4 competitions: an IQ marathon (known as “What? Where? When?”), Brain-Ring, Svoya Igra, and a combined intellectual competition. Nikita Klishin, student from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics of VSU, took part in Svoya Igra and after the selection advanced to the finals.

“There were 5 teams in the league of our university, and the one from Yaroslavl was definitely the strongest. The team from Volgograd “Znak Kachestva” was also a great one: they were right behind us and sometimes even ahead. There were interesting questions in the IQ marathon, and I remember especially well those that we had to answer during the last seconds, and we got them right. I’m happy to boast that I was the one to answer the final Brain-Ring question. Participating in Svoya Igra for the first time is not the same as watching it and answering the questions in your head. You get lost easily and forget the correct answers.”

“Doctor of Sciences, Professor Shvarzengolt” is grateful for the enormous support of their team during the games. The final combined intellectual competition was the most difficult. It is a quintessence of erudition with few logical questions and many of those that require deeper knowledge. The participants received the rules of creative competitions in early December and immediately began preparing for one of the most difficult parts, dancing and singing, and in January they started practising for the other competitions, which included KVN humour show, poster, video, and custom.

“One of the difficulties is the limited number of people in the delegation, so as for the creative sections, we had to take one person for three competitions. The second difficulty was uniting a large number of students who had never met each other before in a short period of time. Of course, we had our motto “no matter what place we take, unless it is the first one”. But creativity is a very subjective thing, that’s why we accepted the places that we were awarded. This year our performances were better than last year. Being the supervisor of this area, I’m very proud of each student,” said Natalia Bukhvalova, Art Director at VSU.

Following the results of the sports section, the VSU team came first in mini-football, basketball, badminton, and chess, second in the rope contest, and third in cybersports.

“I’m so glad to become a part of the “Doctor of Sciences, Professor Shvarzengolt” team again, and this time as the team’s captain. Every year I feel proud for our students because they are incredibly talented. 2024 saw many first-time participants who represented their universities really well. We are grateful to the VSU administration and are willing to grow and develop so that the whole country would hear about the “Doctor of Sciences, Professor Shvarzengolt” team,” said Irina Ryabykh, Chair of the VSU SSC “Khitschnye Bobry”.
