On 9 April, the Institute of International Education of Voronezh State University held the Miss Institute of International Education competition. Four international students took part in the event organised by the department of extracurricular and cultural leisure activities of the IIE at VSU.
The competition consisted of five parts. It was difficult for the jury to choose the one with the best combination of intelligence, beauty, and talent. Dances from Azerbaijan and Sri Lanka, singing in Russian and Swahili, sports battles with hoops, basketballs, and tennis balls, original poems addressed to all international students: these were among the performances prepared by the participants. While the jury was deliberating, the audience enjoyed the performances by the “People’s Band”, the children’s pop song group “Monpensier”, David Kone Sese, pre-university student from Guinea, and Emmanuel Munsha from Zambia, first year student of the Faculty of Economics and a participant of the Mister Institute of International Education 2024.
At the end of the event, members of the jury awarded the competition participants with diplomas and gifts. Third place and the title of “Miss Intelligence” was given to Shanella Tuyirate from Burundi, second place was shared between “Miss Elegance” Chynar Nasyrova from Turkmenistan and “Miss Modesty” Nakkawita Ranuji from Sri Lanka. Expressing his admiration, the chairman of the jury presented the first place diploma of the Miss IIE 2024 competition to Zara Gulamova from Azerbaijan.
“When working with foreign students, it is very important to properly organise the educational process as well as the students’ extracurricular time. This helps them adapt and feel more confident in their new cultural and social environment,” said Natalia Vella, Deputy Director for Extracurricular Activities at the International Education Institute of VSU.
