Between 4 and 7 April, XXXII Masters Swimming Championship was held at the OLIMP sports facility in Obninsk. 1025 sportsmen aged over 25 from 85 clubs competed in the championship.
Alexander Kozlov, a VSU staff member, set a new national record in 1500-meter freestyle in the group aged 65-69. Tatiana Prokofieva, a coach at the VSU Swimming School and Master of Sports of International Class in the Masters category, became a three-time champion of Russia in the 50, 100, and 200-meter breaststroke. Yuri Perin, head of the VSU Swimming School, became a five-time champion of Russia in the Masters category in the 50, 100, and 200-meter backstroke and 100 and 200-meter freestyle. Yuri Perin also performed the duties of a technical delegate of the Swimming “Masters” Federation of Russia and held a workshop dedicated to new rules of the federation.
According to the World Aquatics international swimming federation, Tatiana Prokofieva and Yuri Perin were rated in the Top-10 of the best swimmers in the world in 2023. Tatiana Prokofieva took 8th position in the 100 and 200-meter breaststroke in the “short course” category (25 meter pool), 6th position in the 200-meter breaststroke, and 9th position in the 100-meter breaststroke (50 meter pool). Yuri Perin took 8th position in the 100-meter backstroke (25 and 50 meter pools).
In 2015, Tatiana Prokofieva and Yuri Perin became champions of the Masters Swimming Championship. At the moment, they are training the next generations of sportsmen at the VSU swimming pool, the only swimming pool in Voronezh that has a system of electronic time-tracking.
